I'll be doing my 20 miler solo tomorrow. Yep, my second 20 miler will again be a solo effort. Why? Because of money. And I forgot to bring stuff with me to stay in the city tonight. Oops, indeed. I don't want to drive back into the city tonight, nor do I want to in the wee hours of the morning tomorrow because I'm still worried about my car. I just paid-off the bill from three weeks ago and am currently without much money in my account to get me through the next two weeks. I already have crap that I need to take care of with THAT paycheck too. Oh woe is me, and all that.
Therefore, I'm going home tonight, eating as much pasta as possible, laying out my stuff for the AM, and departing for my last 20 miler of the year at 5 AM. Hopefully, this will guarantee that the weather does not play too much of a factor in this run. I'll be doing the same thing as I did two weeks ago for my first 20 miler. 1.5 miles to the Prairie Path, three 6 mile loops, and 1.5 miles home. Promptly followed by an ice bath and a lot of food.
I'm partly excited, partly terrified. Embrace my dualism.
After I get 20 miler #2 out of the way, it'll be pretty much downhill from there. I talked to our coaches about adjusting my running schedule, as the one we're following is designed mainly for the Chicago Marathon, which is on the 11th of October. My main event isn't for two weeks after that. Coach Brendan advised me to cut back next week to 12 miles, and then do 18 miles the weekend of October 3rd, and then follow the taper schedule. There's a teeny problem with that...I have a bachelorette party to go to Friday, October 2nd, which means I'd have to move my 18 miler to Sunday. There's just a lot going on that weekend! I'd almost rather do 18 next weekend and then 12 the first weekend of October. Meh.
In other news, my knee is feeling much better, but there's still a twinge. I didn't run last night, instead opting for 15 minutes on the bike, and a 15 minute walk on the treadmill. I did manage to run without pain this morning, and narrowly avoided getting skunked. Not skunked, but skunked.
Here's the wildlife count for this morning's easy run at a 10 minute pace:
skunks: 2
rabbits: 12!!!
people walking dogs: 3
runners on the wrong side of the road: 1
clouds of mist: 3.14444444444444444444444
Hermaphrodites: 0 (sorry Nitmos)
Wish me luck for the AM!

The verdict is still out on my run, too. I opted for the CARA "ready to run" 20-miler on Sunday, since the 12:00 pace group is down to a count of 1-at least for this weekend, and quite possibly a few weeks. (me.) Coach Jenny even suggested the CARA run, too, when I explained the situation. So before I ran that doozy of a half marathon, I signed up.
And so hear I sit with a cold that has settled into my chest, and now I'm wondering if I should sit tight and aim for 20 next weekend instead. All the google searches point to YES. Wait. The mere mention of death has me slightly frightened. Death? Really?!
good luck on the solo 20!! i kind of enjoy the solitude so i hope you can embrace the quiet time too ;)
