The Iceman Cometh

We had our first legit cold weather in the Chicago area this week. As I have been taking it easy with the running right now, I wasn't too inspired to get out there on Saturday. But I did because this is my favourite time of year to run...in cold-ass weather with gray skies and crunchy leaves. This is the weather that I started running in, and the weather that inspires me.

My only goal these days is to get strong again, so that once I start training for Palos Heights again in mid February, I'm able to run strong and get that sub 2 hour half-marathon. Therefore, I was looking to do an easy 4 ish miles. I was hoping that I wouldn't feel it the next day. As of right now, I'm feeling alright. I ran the 4.13 miles at a sub 10 minute pace and then did a core workout for a half hour when I got home.

Then the foam roller. Ohhhhh foam roller. How you've captivated my life. Things can never be the same. You've shown me a world where pain is pleasure, where massages are part of the workout, and where a form of compacted plastic that you sit on can be your best friend.

I think I've got to go now.

What's the difference between the foam roller and a "The Stick"?

(And really, I'm curious, although it sounds like the setup to a joke)
