This was before I woke up and saw this:

Allegedly, it would only be one to two inches. It was much more than that, of course. I wish I had a job were I could afford to be only right about 30% of the time and still be able to keep my job.
Therefore, the race was off, at least for Mica and myself. If it had been closer, then we might still have gone to the race. However, the drive was supposed to take an hour and neither of our cars could handle it. Furthermore, neither of us felt comfortable driving. What if we got stuck at the destination? What if we got in an accident? I'd rather lose the $25 I spent on the entry fee than end my life in a blaze of fire and snow.
So no race, and no Saturday long run. We both then decided to try and get our normal Saturday run in at the gym. I know, it was a stretch to think I could run three miles on the deathmill and then run another three miles (or 15 laps) around the track. Sure enough, it was a fail. I could barely finish my three miles on the deathmill. I only managed two miles on the track and that was with a walk break in between miles. So I did five miles total at a 10:00 pace, but non-consecutively. Le sigh.
I felt kinda bad about all of it, but what can you do? It's the Winter and Champaign can't plow, so you adjust as best you can. I have to keep reminding myself that I don't have any time goals this year. I just want to arrive at the starting line healthy and injury free, and remain that way. I am concerned about my 10 mile long run tomorrow, but I'll deal with it when I get to it.
FYI, the sun is out now.

More than likely, we would have been stranded somewhere between Charleston and Champaign. As far as I can tell, that is no-man's-land. And I just saw "The Road", so I'm pretty sure we would have had to fight off violent cannibals and eat canned pears.
Don't beat yourself up too much about only doing five instead of six. I know how you feel, but that extra one mile isn't going to make or break your fitness at all. We adjusted, and that's what matters. And we didn't get eaten by midwestern cannibals. That matters too.
Oh, and I promise I will take you out for Mexican!
I am so bummed you two had to miss your race! I think you did make the right decision though. Stupid mother nature.
And I think that is a great workout in the gym. Running on the treadmill is mind-numbingly boring!
I hope your 10 yesterday was fun!
