Spooning and Running

An intrepid reader wanted to know what the "There-is-no-spoon" theory is. Before I answer that, I must let you know that I did not unofficially PR last night. Tragic, right? I ran pretty fast though, but it sure did feel like I was working hard for the speed. I ran between a 9:08 and a 9:15 last night to finish in 28 minutes and some change. There was a nasty headwind once I turned around, but I can't blame everything on nature. Maybe I should name this training period The Bootleg Quasi-Summer of Speed. I like the sound of that...

So, the "There-is-no-spoon" theory comes from that landmark film, The Matrix. Remember that scene? Where Neo goes to visit the Oracle and meets that kid who can bend the spoon with his mind? Here's that sequence of dialogue:

Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Spoon boy: There is no spoon.

Neo: There is no spoon?

Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

Consider this your Zen moment for the day. You're welcome.

Stupid kid. There is a spoon. I see it right there in the picture.
