I issued a memo to the Wind a few weeks back, politely requesting that it refrain from gusting between the hours of 5 PM and 7 PM.
The Wind ignored my request, thus resulting in my Monday night run. I knew it was going to be bad when I got off the train and walked to my apartment. But, Chicago is no place for weather wimps, so I changed clothes and headed out. I had a 50 minute run with 4 x 20 striders to toss in...somewhere. I figured I'd use my half-mile run to the path to figure that out. It was a bit chilly, for June and in the interest of not having to make too many turns, etc., I decided I'd run South first.
Miiiiiiiiistake.
Running South first almost always guarantees that the wind will bitch slap when I turn back North. This time was no different. I tried to keep a positive attitude. The wind is just hill work with no hills! Focus on form! If it's hard now, it'll be easier on race day! Riiiiiiight. I nearly tossed the striders out for the return trip because it was hard enough at that point to maintain my pace.
But, I got them in and I ended up having a good run. Hey, it's another excuse to eat a few cookies, right? That's what I thought.
And I actually did cross train on Tuesday morning. Last week I bailed on cross training completely. Pure laziness, right here! But I know that's a bad habit to get into, especially when I really can use the cross training.
I'm waffling on whether or not to run with the group tonight, or just run as soon as I get home from work. There's an hour-and-a-half window in between when I get home from work and when the group run starts. I should go tonight, I really should. Because I needed Gatorade mix and the Cubs aren't in town, so I don't have the traffic and drunk asshats excuse to keep me home. But, I also like the idea of being done with my run and happily chillin' at home by the time the real group run starts.
I just don't know...

I HATE wind. I SO pissed for you! I curse allowed at the wind while running in it. And, I just want to slap someone after I run in the wind.

Wind is the worst offender. I can tolerate sun, rain, even snow...but wind's a no-no!
Isn't wishing for no wind in Chicago like wishing for a snowstorm in Arizona?
Think of the wind as resistance training. It's resisting you from enjoying your run.
omg the wind is the WORST!
