Taper Update

Yesterday I wasn't able to post because I was too busy sleeping. I hope this isn't a sign of bad things to come because I've been tired and hungry all the time. But I'm trying not to get too stressed out about this...yet, stress is my middle name. So, yeah...I've managed to cut back gradually on my running. Cutting back on my food intake is, however, a little more difficult. For instance, as i sit here, I am eating sugar free cookies.

True, they are sugar free, but I just can't stop eating them! And knowing this, I want to work out more...which I shouldn't be doing when I'm trying to taper.

Maybe, if I finish the box of cookies, I'll be okay! Because if there are no cookies left, I will not desire the cookies...genius idea really.

Today was a 4 mile run at marathon race pace. I definitely tried to maintain my pace, and was able to do so give or take a few hundredths of a second. Tomorrow is supposed to be a day off, but I think I'll cross train anyway. The NYC Ballet workout is almost completely non-impact and I get to stretch a lot. When it comes down to it, I need to make up for my caloric intake in some way.

*Sigh* If only your body would just automatically desire less calories when you're tapering!!!

10 Days, 11 hours till the Marathon.

SLEEP!!! i slept so much the 2 weeks before and it definitely pays off. get as much as you can, its your body healing up and resting so it can kiss a** the big day!

Love your philosophy about the box of cookies. I would do the same.

Aron has some sound advice. I'd follow that. Sleep can only be a good thing.

Good luck!

P.S.--You and my doctor have the same name. That amused me during my appt on Tues. :)

Ha! Try to keep your feet up and rest! The NYCB workout sounds good because it will probably keep you limber.

The taper Eat or Not To Eat dilemma. Ah, we know it so well. Eat. Enjoy. Run.

Tapering is crazy, isn't it? Anyway, I'm with Aron - extra rest will do you good.

Oooh, I've had those. Whole Foods. Fake Oreos. Delicious. Girl, once you've got them in the house, stop trying to fight it. The trick is to not buy them.

SUGAR FREE COOKIES?! That just ain't right! I mean, if you're a diabetic it's the only right thing, but you? Girl, that's what you run for....TO BE ABLE TO EAT COOKIES. (ok wait, maybe that's me.)

This is precisely why I don't like buying pints of ice cream. They're small enough that I COULD eat a pint in a sitting, so having it around just makes me want to finish it off so it won't be around anymore.

I've now learned to buy sorbet, which is at least only 300 calories/pint instead of like 800, so if I screw up, it's not as bad.
