The Weekend...It Happened

I apologize for the lack of weekend posting but I was simply too lazy to do anything. I stared at my computer, thinking about posting, but just never got around to it. Because it's le weekend and I don't have to.

Now that I'm done being both lazy and snotty, I will fill you in on the weekend doings.

Saturday was of course, the "easy" 10 miler. And it felt great, honestly. We were actually sailing along at about a 10:15 to 10:20 pace. Except for a little pain in my right instep, I felt strong and confident. Go me!

I did, however, make the small mistake of walking about 5 miles when I got home. I just thought it'd be easier to walk to the bank and Jewel instead of drive. I forgot that it was 2.3 miles to the bank and then going to Jewel added on another half mile or so. Oops. Well by the end of the day, I was hurtin' ever-so-slightly.

But I assure you that I am tapering for reals, yo. For instance, today starts my one-per-day workouts, instead of my usual two-per-days. I am trying so very hard to trust that this does, in fact, work. However, I am a bit confused on one point. Diet. What does this mean for how I'm eating or what I should eating? Do I need to cutback what I'm consuming? Because...I think I might find that hard to do. You see, while my diet has come leaps and bounds from where I started, the ratios haven't really improved all that much. I mean, I get generally the amount of carbs/protein/fat I should be eating when I'm running hard or moderately hard, but what should I do when I'm tapering? Any thoughts? Because I still kinda want to eat the way I've been eating.

And, much of this depends upon the amount of money I have to spend on groceries. If I've got money, I eat pretty well. If there are bills to pay, I make due with what's in my pantry. The end.

Did anyone see the Celebrities Without Make-Up on E! this past Friday night? I know, sick and trashy, but I was bored. Anyway, it was completely hilarious in that it only targeted women and blah blah blah (I could go on forever about the rampant sexism here...but I digress) and I didn't care too much until the posted a picture of Felicity Huffman. Now, I happen to think she's a beautiful woman and a FANTASTIC actor anyway, but this was completely uncalled for:

Note: This isn't the exact same picture from the show, but it was the same context...at a triathlon.

Pardon? This is worthy of ridicule?!?! You're going to call her out because she's not wearing make-up at a TRIATHLON??????? Come on, Hollywood! It's shit like that and when Matt Damon opens his fool mouth up that make throw up in my mouth a little. Yes, let's go put some make-up on before we run 26.2 miles so the boys will like us!!! You know, we should do that before we do a 1 mile open water swim and then jump on a bike for 14 miles. Excellent idea!

Sometimes, I'm truly embarrassed by the line of work I'm in.

Um, I put on makeup sometimes before I go running, but nobody should have to. And Felicity Huffman looks beautiful in that picture.

That is ridiculous. Totally ridiculous.

So, don't trust E! but definitely trust your taper.

definitely trust the taper - it works! great job on the 10 miler!

i tried to eat pretty normally during taper, just cut back a little since i didn't need as much. its hard when you are in the habit of eating so much from training :) there is an article on runnersworld i found when i was in taper that said what kind of things you should be getting each week (week 1 of taper: protein to rebuild, week 2: fat i think?) i dont have the link but maybe dig around for it??

The taper is more of a mental challenge. I usually try to eat similarly to how I did during training, but cut back a bit on the amounts. It seems to work.

As far as eating goes, just listen to your body. You don't want to eat too much and gain extra weight in the days leading up, but you also don't want to underfuel yourself.
